Privacy Policy
Effective June 14, 2026
EZ NYC is designed to help you navigate the subway without building a profile about you.
Information EZ NYC uses
Location. If you choose “Current Location,” EZ NYC uses your location to identify nearby subway stations and plan the beginning of your trip. Location access is optional and is requested through iOS. EZ NYC does not maintain a history of your precise location.
Searches and route selections. Station searches and route selections are used to provide the features you request. Street address and place suggestions are processed using Apple’s MapKit services and are subject to Apple’s privacy practices.
Information stored on your device. Favorite subway lines, Home and Work stations, notification settings, downloaded-map status, and recently retrieved MTA feeds are stored locally using Apple platform storage. The recent feeds allow routing to continue when your device temporarily loses its connection, including underground.
Transit and map data
EZ NYC retrieves subway schedules, arrivals, and service-alert information from public MTA data services. Network requests may expose standard technical information, such as an IP address, to the service operator as part of normal internet communication.
If you download the subway map, the app obtains the map from the MTA website and stores a copy on your device for offline viewing.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, EZ NYC sends an anonymous installation identifier, an Apple push-notification token, your favorite line selections, timezone, and selected notification days and times to our notification service. This information is used only to deliver delay alerts for your favorite lines during the times you allow.
The notification service does not receive your name, email address, precise location, trip searches, routes, or saved Home and Work places. Installation secrets are stored in protected form, and Apple push credentials are kept separately from the app.
Notification permission can be disabled in iOS Settings. Favorite-line alerts and their schedule can also be changed inside EZ NYC.
Information we do not collect
EZ NYC does not require an account and does not collect your name, contacts, payment information, or advertising identifier. We do not sell personal information and do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Data retention and deletion
Locally saved preferences remain on your device until you change them, clear them in the app, or delete the app. Cached MTA feeds are replaced automatically as newer information is retrieved and are removed when the app is deleted.
Notification registration data remains on the notification service while notifications are enabled. Turning favorite-line notifications off in EZ NYC requests deletion of that registration. Invalid or expired Apple notification tokens are also removed automatically.
Children’s privacy
EZ NYC is a general-audience transit utility. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
EZ NYC uses encrypted HTTPS connections when communicating with supported data services. No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as EZ NYC evolves. The effective date at the top of this page will identify the latest version. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
